Vagabond
Badge snobbery. We'll never escape it I've owned 3 seat leon cupra R's and they were great but people still turned their noses up at them. I buy the R32 and lo & behold, every fecker comments on it because it's a VW
twigs972
I used to have a VRS didn't care what people said. It drove better than the Golf GTI and had a massive boot. I know it drove better and handled better than the equivalent Golf as my brother had a Golf and it handled like a wet lettice, but thats my opinion. A4_Family_Man
I think it's similar to an analogy with Alfa-Romeo. We know they're great driver's cars but would we want to own one? I think it's a similar position with Skoda: great value, good cars now but would I like to tell people at parties that I drive a Skoda?
khutula
It would be my second car - so I don't really care what people think - it satifies what I need. If I bought one and somebody asked me what I drive, I would say an R32, but I also own a Skoda vRS. I wouldn't buy Primark clothes or shop in Aldi, but the vRS is beginning to shake the image of yesteryear, I for one wouldn't have a problem telling people I own one
garcon magnifique
I think the joke is now well and truly on the dinosaurs who still laugh at Skodas. Same goes with Seats to be honest. Very good cars IMO. If I was in that market I would definitely look at Skodas and Seats before VWs - I just think their equivalent models are better cars and far better value. saab
The fact that most people here don't really feel that there is a stigma to Skoda ownership is hardly surprising, because this forum is comprised of people who know their cars. Asking this question on this forum might well give you the answer you want to hear, but is that answer actually representative? Probably not, because although Skoda jokes are few and far between nowadays, most people if you asked them what the first thing they thought of when the word Skoda is mentioned, would be "bad car" or something similar, whether they have personal experience of them or not. Therefore in my view there is still a Skoda stigma, and probably quite a significant one at that. Question is can you live with it?
330dcoupe
I'd buy a VRs as a second car, for sure. I'm not sure if i could live with it day in day out - and after owning a cople of beemers - anything with front wheel drive, albeit as good as the VRs - seems boring in comparison, after a while. but yeah, you get my thums up. [/ QUOTE ] I wouldn't say our new shape Leon is better than a Golf for quality of finish, but it does seem built better, doesn't have the trademark rattle/squeek from the plastics and I think looks better/more fresh and you get a ton of kit as standard - but it carries the badge that people often turn their noses up which is a shame as like-for-like I think it's better than a Golf. If only they could sort out the plastics on the dash.
A4_Family_Man
For the public at large, it is the name/marque they would go off. Badge snobbery, unfortunately, is rife.
MartzRallye
I like the VRs, I test drove one when they were new. The only problem I had at the time was the sad crappy logo. It really does need updating IMO.
