Bizarre soft top and general electrics problem

As it's a sunny day in Reading I decided I'd get the wind deflector out and have the soft top down.

No chance !

The thing in the boot is in the right position but pressing the roof button I get "Soft top can not be used" on the DIS. After fiddling with this for 10 mins I realised that the door electrics (windows, wing mirror etcs) were also dead and the curtesy lights were staying on.

So I left the car and went inside. Came back out 10 mins later and the top came down. And up. And down. No probs.

So I went out to the shops with the top down. Went back to car and the central locking not working but could open door with the key. And of course the soft top/door/lights mularky is back !!!!!.

Been back outside now, and works fine. Top up, then down etc. Started the engine. Now can put it down.

Bu66er !

Any ideas?

Only recent changes have been hardwiring my RoadAngel using the "shove it in a fuse" method.

Cheers

Latest is as follow:

1) The error message "Soft top : cannot be used" is listed in the manual as possibly being caused by insuuffcient battery charge and indeed if I jump in and have a drive it seems OK so this may be it.

2) Therefore wheres the best place to get a new battery. I have been getting the battery warning light staying on when I start the car for a few months now.

I completely lost a battery on a Cab once. Dead, dead it was, would not charge, after a 10 mile run was still dead and Audi were actually going to replace under warranty. I left a charger on it for a good long spell and it came back to life and never even had a blip after. Worth a try.

Well, after taking out the RA and having been left for a while (few hours). The problems seem to have largely evaporated !

More, to the point, I can't now replicate them with the exception of not being able to open the window from inside when without the keys in the ignition. I can't rememebr whether this is normally possible or not.

Result - Problem diagnosed as a Convienience Control Unit by Listers Audi Coventry.

Anyway, they (Listers) have moved and are now an Uber dealer and claim they have "special powers". So they quoted me £500 inc vat to replace the unit but then said as the car is less than 5 years old it shouldn't have gone wrong, so they have will pay £200 good will from Audi (without the normal delay in getting Audi to agree) towards the work. The unit costs is £300 list !.

So, all in all, quite happy.

Anyway, on a further note, Listers also said that they could do up to 25% discount (10% labour 15% parts) on parts/labour on work on older (3 years +) cars in future cos of this new level of autonomy they have.

Sounds like b0110cks to me but if I pay less I don't car.

Cheers
