joe_manchester
just wonderingf if anyone can help....... been having a problem with the door open warning light on the dash. recently it has been flickering on and off when going over bumps etc. It wasnt very often, but now the light is permanantly on even thhough all the doors and boot are properly closed. i think it is possibly a loose sensor on one of thr doors. i have tried looking for this sensor that must switch of the warning light but im struggling, can anyone tell me where i can find it or suggest what the problem may be?? thanks in advance, the car is a 2001 Golf 1.4 cheers
Rustynuts
The switches are incorporated into the door lock mechanism on each door, but it's possibly more likely to be the wires where they go into the door near the hinges. Probably start with the drivers door as that gets opened more than the others.

Rustynuts
Yep, in the rubber that runs between the car and the door. Could be frayed and snapped inside there. I had a similar issue on the van but it was the radio speaker wire. I just soldered it.

joe_manchester
well i have checked the cables in the door and they seem ok, no moisture or breaks. i think it maybe the boot thats causing the problem?? do you know how i can go about checking that?? or is there a simple way to de activate the warning light? its slightly annoying now cheers again
Rustynuts
Not altogether sure as I have a Bora, but I seem to remember there being a problem with the rear windscreen washer tube leaking and water getting into the lock assembly. There's a microswitch in the latch mechanism.

VW told me its a common problem and "sold" me a new latch for £20. I replaced the tube and the latch, its been fine since. This problem also makes your alarn go off randomly too as it thinks the boot is open when all doors are locked!

[/ QUOTE ] that sounds about right, i have noticed water in the latch mechanism recently and i have been using the rear wash heavily rather than washing the car. i am a novice when it comes repairs. do i need to fit a new micro switch then? sorry if i sound like a plank but i dont really know what im doing. thanks again
Wobby
This has happened twice to my passat estate. Not saying its the same on yours. Both times on mine i have noticed a reduction in water sprayed on back window. On mine it is the pipe that connects onto mechanism, its never been broken. It just seems to "pop" off! It feels a very sturdy secure fit when clipped back on. On both occasions with mine its done no damage, i left the trim off a few days to allow it all to dry out and wiped/ washed the solution off anything incase it may be a bit corrosive. On mine it affected the wiper giving it a mind of its own, also had a couple of false alarm triggers and also had a problem with the boot locking/ unlocking. All repaired themselves once dry!! sotty
No probs Joe, thats what this site is all about, people sharing knowledge. We all had to start as a novice too. Hope you fix it
joe_manchester
well the light has gone off again now. i presume it is the leaking rear wash/wipe that you have both mentioned. The water that was in the mechanism has dried out and the light is off, so its sorted. i just wont use the rear wash as much now
