Sony Ericsson W810i

This phone is basically a relogoed K750. It has the same screen, camera, size etc. The only difference is the button layout and the menu/music application. The K750 can play all of the same music formats but just doesn't look as flashy. Both are very very good phones but are becoming outdated.

If you can afford it, go for the K800i, that is the sequel to the K750.

Had a K800i and went through 4 of them. So not a fan of that particular model which is a shame as the screen is great.

The reviews I read compared it to the W800 rather than the 750, but interesting to know. How long has the W810i been out then if it's dated? I thought it was fairly new?

If you want an SE then W880i. If you want a Nokia then ? as it's a funny time at the moment - either 6300 or possibly 6110/6290 when they come out (although they are both S60 Symbian phones so UHOH7.GIF )

I'm in the same boat and can't make my mind up.

Hadn't remembered about the 880i. Now that is nice!

Mind you, the reviews all say that the 810i has more features over this one. Main disadvantages are:

No FM radio

No Infrared port

Camera has no autofocus

No EDGE

Records video in ancient QCIF (176 x 144 pixels) resolution only

Am about to return my N95 to Orange so looking at sticking with SE. Its either the K800 or W880 that I will go for.

Is it best to go instore as a new customer? Will you be able to haggle on handset costs? I don't want to pay for a handset if I am a new customer on a network!

New contract.

Well existing contract due to end shortly, so we asked for an upgrade to the W880i and to move the package upto the £30 per month one, for 12 months and was refused. Upon telling them we wish to cancel then, magically we're offered it at 12 months but have to pay £49.99 for the phone. Then again, I tell them to stick it, and we're then offered 12 months and phone at £5! Again, matter of principle, told them to shove it and cancelled.

So, back onto website, Dolphin £30pm, 12 month contract, W880i phone for free. Fecking pointless!

I had no problem swapping my number over from T-Mobile to Orange 169144-ok.gif

I have just had a look at the Orange site as my contract is up soon too - I like the look of the W890 169144-ok.gif

Dave - whats wrong with the N95?? It was one I was considering - should I avoid it?? 169144-ok.gif

Can you port your number though? I know that Orange wont do it contract to contract. Unless your number is not that important to you.

No. I asked this and they said it can be used on a PAYG "contract" for 6 months and then you can port it back to a normal account. Not worth the hassle. Seems really bizzare that I could port from another operator, but not them.

Same happened to me Sparky with Orange, wouldn't offer what I wanted even though they would give similar to new customers.

So I up'ed sticks to T-mobile and haven't looked back, they called ME come upgrade time and offered me £10 a month off if I go on another contract or a free upgrade to a phone I wanted. No decided what I want to move to yet phone wise, need to look at something that will work with Bluetooth on new motor what ever that might be. 169144-ok.gif

Well I had looked at it but Orange offered me it for £250 then £114. I finally got a free upgrade out of them and was looking forward to it.

I used it for two days and it is now sat in the box. The things I didn't like:

- flimsy feel when you open it up to access the keypad.

- the keypad opens easily in your pocket and this removes the key lock.

- it accesses the internet (yes you can disable that part, but you then loose many of the phones functions) and I feared a huge mobile bill every month.

It was a good phone but I wasn't overjoyed by it, the software on it seems very good but it felt flimsy and I was worried about what sort of bills I might start getting each month if I used it as the phone was intended.

Will be switching to T-mobile and sticking with a Sony Ericsson phone.

Apparently the general consensus is yes you should .

From what I've read it's slow as you like, not well built, costly (for the GPS) and a touch flimsy.

Sounds like a top dollar idea that needs another 6-12 months development, plus it sounds like Nokia are doing that age old small British car company thing of letting the users do the development for them.
