skifly
{also on CSN} Does anyone know of any way to get my linkstation live to shut-up for a bit and give me some peace!! This bloody thing is really noisy and always active!! Seem to remember someone else on here had one so would appreciate finding out if this is normal! As soon as it is switched on the hard drive seems to decided it needs to find something and you can constantly hear the heads going. So much so that i have resorted to turning it off all the time defeating the point of it as you can hear it in the backrground when watching tv etc. The other half is really annoyed with it too and complaining about it being in our lounge. Annoyingly we only have a phone point in the bedroom or the lounge so cant move it to a different room as i cant move the router! Is it possibly a dud unit or does anyone else have this problem with the Live or Pro version?
Sparky
If the heads are seeking too much then yes, there is potentially an issue. Mine don't do that, although for a few mins upon start up they can thrash away a little, but otherwise you should only hear it when actually reading/writing off the disk. Try it on another computer as I've seen some AV software cause these units some problems when trying to scan them.
CarMad
Mine doesn't do this its very quite I find. Have a look in the options and see if there is anything that you can turn off that isn't needed maybe?!?
skifly
noticed the same problem when connected straight to a pc via crossover, straight to the router with no PC's connected etc... and cant find anything too exciting in the menu options that would cause it. The drive is a barracuda according to the diagnostics which is supposed to be fairly quiet. Not sure what else to do really but it is definately the head movement causing the noise. Scotty
I have one of the latest Buffalo jobbies and I found it a bit noisey. I've since put some foam under it and now it's fine.
