Why do the front tyres wear quicker on a S4

Ok, I maybe having a stupid moment, but why do the front tyres wear quicker on a S4.

Is it the weight of the engine?

Maybe my use of the right foot?

I can't see me getting anymore than 9k out the fronts, yet the rears still have loads of tread.

Now for my next silly question, is there any issue just replacing the front tyres with new and leaving the backs?

Also got the car back from the dealer after yet another alternator and suprise aux radiator.

I checked the fitting of the bumper to find gaps, speak to the tech and he agree's. Therefore why the hell did he let it out the workshop like that???

I believe it is due to the weight of the engine - the outside edges wear fairly quickly.

What tyres are you currently running ?

I do not see any problem replacing fronts and leaving rears if they are still good - i did this on mine as the fronts were gone and the rears still had at least 5,000 miles left in them - i was then running Goodyear GSD3 on fronts and Micheline PS2's on the rear, not ideal having different treads front to rear but didnt have any probs.

Just over 16k miles and absolutly loads of tread left. OK they have got the usual scrubing on the outside edge but the rest is fine.(Pilot sports)

What mileage is everyone else getting ?

I asked this question on my 3.2 quattro and was told that aslong as there was no more than 5mm difference between front and back then this was fine. I actually changed all 4 anyway due to tread depth on the back and a 25% off promotion when I bought 4.

I had exactly the same problem with the fit of the bumper after Aux Rad replacement - in fact the whole front end looked a mess. Additionally when I opened the bonnet I couldn't get it to close again. The bumper, front grill and bonnet needed sorting out.

How often are you guys checking your pressures?

I keep mine topped up after finding on an early set of tyres how easy it is to chew the side walls. I also run just a fraction over pressure e.g. 40psi all round instead of 39psi.

Since doing this I've not had a problem.

It's probably the F1's but the difference when the weather changes to the pressures and the feel is amazing. I've always been a reguler at checking but with these it's a compulsory occupation.
