Soulboy
I read Clarksons report on the S3 in The Sunday Times today and it wasnt exactly glowing. http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/driving/jeremy_clarkson/article1776405.ece I have not posted this just because he said he would buy the R32 instead - but I was genuinely suprised that his opinion was so negative. lottiefox
Yes, I read this too. But Clarkson never liked the Mark I TT either......fool!!
Sparky
Does anyone really believe a word Clarkson says? I find his reviews full of mistakes and often a year later he'll class a car he slated as the best thing since sliced bread. He's a great presenter, but I don't rate his reviews of many cars. Sparky
Interesting. For all those wondering about the RS3 [ QUOTE ] I’d like, at this point, to advise you all hold off until the much talked about RS3 comes onto the market. But I’m reliably informed that despite much speculation in the motoring press, and even a handful of spy pictures, no such thing will be launched until after the all-new A3 is introduced, two years from now. Mollox
Wonderful! Another 5 years of RS3 rumours and mystique. I should imagine by then that it will be powered by a twin-turbo (infinitely variable vane, of course), single supercharger 7 cylinder engine with 560bhp, and have the next generation KumQuattro (which only powers the outside set of wheels in a corner), not to mention seats made from 2mm slivers of carbonfibre and have a smarties dispenser in the (carbon fibre) armrest. I have been reliably informed that it will allegedly cost approximately £67k base and that a triangular "S" steering wheel and transparent PVC wheels will be much sought-after options. If I were you, I'd place your deposits now
Mollox
In fact the most prudent thing to do would be to start a thread on the 8Z RS3.

Sparky
MK1 TT's were. Not seen any women drive the new ones yet, just blokes.
steve2
a smartie dispenser, that would be great. just right for dealers
RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] MK1 TT's were. Not seen any women drive the new ones yet, just blokes. [/ QUOTE ] ....So far, out of about 8 I've seen, only 1 has been driven by a bloke! I believed JC's review of the Mk5 GTI, test drove it, and the rest is history - He was spot on in his review of that one at least.
lesK
MK1 TT's were horible, but the new is fantastic!
stevie_d
Yeah, very strange review, I had to read most of it before I actually read anything about the S3... He really said very little tbh, but I'm not even sure if he's driven one, as I don't seem to get this massive turbo lag that he harped on about. drpellypo
JC says what he needs to say in order to entertain/shock/offend. It's as simple as that. He's a journalist, not a motoring expert. I would never, ever base any kind of opinion on a car on a review by JC. I do enjoy reading his stuff though.
Oli
He is right about the turbo lag though
RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] He is right about the turbo lag though [/ QUOTE ] ....Due to the S3's relatively bigger turbo than the GTI for example, I expect. It just goes to prove how finely balancing a car results in a good 'un. But you would have thought that Audi would have addressed any turbo lag problem. I've sat in the new S3 but not driven one. Sparky
The one I tested had no real turbo lag at all.

RedRobin
....It's looking as if JC got the turbo lag subject wrong.
Adam
Usual JC, 75% crap about eskimos and the arctic tundra, leaving about 4 paragraphs to review the car. His style over substance is realy grating in the ST (and I like him on TG). Criticisms were valid (the lag is overplayed) although he ignored the downside of a heavy V6 upfront also. As for Audi fitting a 420ps RS4 engine in an S3 for £28k - yeah right!!
Oli
Compared to the GTI, which is lagless, there is turbo lag - It funny, its only the S3 owners that claim, they cant feel this lag....which is very apparent
RedRobin
So, can someone educate me please - Is the S3's turbo bigger than the GTI's ?
Calm Chris
Yes it is- Ko4 unit shared with the Cupra and maybe (not sure on this one)even the E30 GTI
