Calm Chris
A Mr Cassey, mid 40's commuted to his bus station on a BMW motorbike. For 4 months he drove past speeding cameras at speeds between 70-105 mph. His tricks was to remove his reg plate and stick 2 fingers up at the cameras every time he went past. The police checked the motorbike d'base and found there were only 3 x BMW red bikes in the County. Due to his bespoke light additions they narrowed down to 1 bike and caught him. Yesterday he pleaded not guilty to 9 counts of dangerous driving and was found guilty of 9 counts of driving without due care, fined £1600 and banned for 1 year. He was quoted as saying "I hate speed cameras" I'd imagine he will loose his bus driving job
DanG
A lot of the guys in london who commute have these floding number plates. Apparently they can hit a switch on the handlebars and the plate folds up. A friend has one, but i have yet to see it as yet, but sounds interesting. He also uses it to park on double yellows and hides his tax disk, so he doesn't get tickets.... disgracefull!
Calm Chris
The servo operated number plates will get you an instant ban- I understand they adapt car wing mirror motors to do the job. I've seen R1's riding towards speed camera's in 40 and 50 mph limits and simply wheelie at 70 mph+ past the cameras. When the number plate is pointing towards the ground there's no chance the camera's will get a decent photograph
Chrisg
was this the guy on Meridian /BBC South the other evening? Oxford area ?? He did say something along the lines of if you do the crime you have to be prepared to pay the price..... but yes a bus driver needs a licence. timps
The first one I saw years ago was made by using a gutted electric car aerial motor under the pillion seat. A hinge at the bottom of a standard plate and the top bolted to the toothed plastic cord used to extend the aerial, quite ingenious really. Quite a few lads in the north west made them and fitted them to their bikes. The police targeted all the local biker haunts and made it clear that any one found with one would be charged with trying to pervert the course of justice. Not sure if anyone was charged but a few mates took them off after that, not as many speed cameras back then so not worth the risk.
drpellypo
Of course you could always just make sure any speed cameras you flew past were in front of you.
Hudson
The guy in the BMW sounds like a total Wan***, i'm glad he got caught, idiots like him are one of the main reasons the public's opinion of ''bikers'' is so bad. If he has a disagreement with speed cameras then he should petition against them not give ammunition to the exact people who say bikers need more draconian intervention in their lives. Maybe he was dropped on his head as a baby, who knows.
