thepm
Hi I have a problem with my parking sensors. If I press the button on the dash or engage reverse I get the same issue. 9 times out of 10 it gives a continues beep for about 2 seconds and then the light on the dash flashes. I assume this means that there is an error. However it does sometimes give a short beep and then the light stays on. If I use the front sensors at this point it is fine but If I back up to something it may kind of work for a short time and then beep for a couple of seconds and start flashing (again error'ing I think). If I go into the MMI to set the volume and pitch it does make some noise but not clear beeps as you would expect, it is a bit difficult to describe but kind of a quarter of a beep or a beep to a speaker with a dodgy connection. Again if you change the pitch/volume on the front it is fine. I have had the problem diagnosed by Audi and they say the fault is OSR outer sensor. I have bought and fitted one but it has made no difference. I have swapped each sensor in turn in case they had just told me the wrong sensor by mistake, but again no difference. Has anyone come across this problem before? I think there are two possibilities, the rear speaker is dodgy which would tie in with the MMI issue but I would not think the parking sensor module would be intelligent enough to know that. Alternatively the parking sensor module is faulty but I would not have thought it would work for the front in that case. You don’t have to code the sensors to the car or something daft like that? Anyone had this problem or got any ideas? Philip
Gadgeteer
Hi Phil, No experience of this particular issue but what I would do is simply check the connector at the module end for a dodgy contact. You have to remember that the part-swap monkeys at the dealer just do what the computer tells them, so if it says the sensor is faulty they just swap it out without much investigation. I had a passenger seat sensor swapped for about 400 quid but the fault code came back later (it was an intermittent fault) and it turned out to be the plug. thepm
Gadgeteer Thanks for the advice but I have checked all of the pins to the rear parking sensors with a multi meter. They all work/look ok and give the same low resistance. Just to be sure I have cleaned them with a bit of switch cleaner as well. It is of course possible if it is a dodgy wire I could miss it but it all looks good so I am not sure. I think the next thing to check is the rear buzzer and see If this works out of the car. thepm
Good news I have fixed my parking aid issue. I took the rear buzzer out of the car and tried to test it. It looked ok (although very dusty) but I could not get any sound out of it. I could not even see the cone work witch I though I would. So I put it back in the car and nothing. I guess I must have blown the speaker in my testing. I was a bit surprised because I only put 9v through it. Anyway I bought a new one from Audi (£11) and fitted it. It now works spot on and if I adjust the volume or pitch via MMI it gives proper beeps and not quarter beeps like before. I guess the speaker must of been on it way out and I finished it off with my testing. Audi have changed the design so may be they are a little cheap. So I have learnt two things. The parking aid module is intelligent enough to test the speaker and never listen to what an Audi dealer tells you! Philip

cruiser647
Hi... have you cleared the faults? Do they reappear? Also, another thing to try is to wipe and clean everything around the sensors. However, the fault makes it sound like a power supply issue rather than individual faults. See if you can find the fuse for the sensors, check the wiring too and also, in the boot, on the near side of the car as you look into the boot, remove the panel where the sat navs is, and you will see the Parking Sensor module on the rear wing. Reseat the three?? cables that plug into it.
