tried many different lubes from runny stuff to waxes, always used castrol chain wax you must remember to lube your chain when you get back from a ride so the chain is hot for the wax to stick to.many people wax their chains before they go out which is pointless as most of the lube flies up the side of your bike.the wax is a bit messy looking but i used to clean the chain once or twice a month with meths to bring it up nice again. slap.gif

I had been using the oil that goes into the Scotoilers but this was getting a bit messy. I now use the Wurth chain lube, it's not runny and not a wax !! It sort of just sprays on like hairspray would ! And just does it's job, up to now i like it and will be ''sticking'' with it.

I used Castrol chain wax.

Mainly because it was available FOC from the engineers at work. Having said that, the only reason they had it in their stores was because a couple of them were bikers and so ordered it when they needed chain lube for machines in the factories. grin.gif

Performance wise, I never had any issues with it; it stayed on well and was long-lasting - far more so than other lubes I tried (and got covered in). 169144-ok.gif

The trick is to do it after a ride.... <ul type="square">

[*]when the chain is warm spray the chain with a detergent and rub with a cloth to get clean. Get as much crap off as you

can.

[*] Spray the chain liberally with WD40 and rub clean again.

[*]Get a decent Chain wax like silkolene and spray evenly and thoroughly.

[*]Repeat every 500 miles

5 minutes well spent 169144-ok.gif

I'm currently using putoline dx11 chain lube and even when its applied straight after a ride it still flings.

The PJ1 blue has been reccomended by the bike shop and a few mates so i'll probably try that one. Will have a go at following the method above too. 169144-ok.gif

First off I would never let WD40 near my bike let alone it's O ring chain!! WD40 isn't the best thing for O rings.

Paraffin is a much better solvent to use on a dirty chain and won't damage O rings.

Best I've used is PJ1. Bright blue easier to use than any others I've tried.

Got to say PJ1 Blue Label was the best chain lube I've ever used. I'd used it for nearly 20 years and having bikes with gold and white wheels can vouch for it's anti fling properties. That stuff went on like blue p*** and dried like black tar!!!

However like most things these days they changed the formula a couple of years ago (probably had lots of nasty stuff in it!). The tin looks almost the same. it's still called PJ1 Blue Label but it's now clear and s***e IMO. Just not the same at all. I now get a black gloopy mess dripping out of the front sprocket cover after a few hundred miles and it's a good job the SP's wheels are black!!! smirk.gif

So no more PJ1 BL for me. I've just started using the Wurth dry chain lube and it's looking very promising after a thousand miles or so. Goes on thin & wet and dries into a nice film. Seems to stay on the chain 169144-ok.gif

Try the PJ1 by all means but only buy a small tin because I fear it will be used for lubing door hinges after your first ride!!
