I've got to have mine removed soon, glad I got the private med insurance, hopefully I won't end up with a butcher! UHOH7.GIF

hmm... no guarantee... it's all a bit of a lottery mate, IMHO.

I had 2 out recently... one was done on Harley Street, cost me a fortune and was frankly the worst hour of my entire life. The second (worst) one was done at a sh1tty run down looking Whitecross place in North London, and was absolutely fine. Minimal discomfort, and much less bone removed with the tooth.

Well I've had it done SAUER0421.GIF

I was in and out within half an hour. The top one took all of 10 seconds to pull out and the bottom one took about 10 minutes. The bottom one had to be cut in half and come out in two pieces. Had to have extra anaesthetic for the bottom one because I could still feel him prodding around. Ended up with three stitches.

Came out feeling like I'd had a stroke, completely numb on one side of my face. Started to think that it wasn't too bad at all and what the fuss was all about. Until the anaesthetic started to wear off SAUER0421.GIFSAUER0421.GIFSAUER0421.GIF

Don't think I've ever had pain like it in my life before. It was sooooo painful. Paracetamol did jack poo but ibuprofen seem to do the trick.

I had a full nights sleep but woke up in a fair amount of pain so have knocked some more paracetamol back and it's not too bad now. My face looks a bit swollen but not too bad. Not enough to get stared at in the street as if I'm a leper anyway sekret.gif

I wouldn't say it was a pleasant experience. The actual removal was fine, just afterwards that was a bit unpleasant but I'm glad I've had it done now. And I'm actually feeling like I might be able to celebrate my birthday this weekend, even if I have to be careful what I eat beerchug.gif

If the pains gets silly try dabbing aspirin powered crushed up on it (I understand coke works well).

Aspirin ingested will also help with the swelling more than paracetamol or ibuprofen will.

Regarding the salt water rinse, fine if you have no dental 'melting' dressings in- the one's that dissolve over a few days. If you do have that type of dressing, salt water will break it down quicker than it should- so avoid for 48 hours.

I've got dissolvable stitches - he said they dissolve in 10-14 days. They've given me an advice sheet on what I should do with regards to aftercare and it says saltwater mouth rinses every 2 hours, and chlorhexidine-based mouthwash every four hours. The salt water I can tolerate but the mouthwash is just downright disgusting Flush.gif

shocked.gif did you not ask for the proper painkillers they can give you? EEK2.GIF

He asked if I wanted painkillers at the end but I was a bit naive because the anaesthetic was still doing the trick so decided I didn't need them smashfreakB.gif It's not too bad at the moment anyway, paracetamol seems to be doing the trick today.
