richey33
Hello all, Has anyone tested both of these ? I have had the pleasure of the R32, but not the v6 4motion. Performance fugures are sort of similar (10mph top end, R32 .5 of second quiker getting to 60). The interiors of the v6 4motion seem more 'comfortable'. Any thoughts or experiences welcome. dogbucket
I owned both (mk4) Chalk and cheese. 4motion is a much softer ride, quieter (does not make that lovely R32 noise out the back), noticeably slower, less focused to drive and not forgetting the old mans wood trim. But maybe more usable day to day because of those reasons and because it looks like every other Mk4 golf out there. Also slightly cheaper to run due to brake part costs etc. I enjoyed both, but the R was special. Depends what you want out of the car.
Soulboy
I owned both. I thought the 4MO was ok until I got the R32, and compared to the R it is a big sloppy lazy lump. If you get a 4mo, you would need to spend quite a lot to get it to even start coming close to the R.
richey33
Cheers Dogbucket, Interesting. Just wonder what market the V6 4 motion was aimed at ?? I love the old mans trim !!! Once again, thanks.
Argus
I also had the MKIV 4motion P/Xed it for my MKIV R32 which then went for my MKV R32.Dog bucket and soulboy are spot on they are such different cars. The 4Motion is more of a relaxed crusier, suspension is softer steering not as sharp as the R32,s...but on the plus side it does have that gorgeous V6 engine
hixster
Had a 4Mo before I knew .:R32's existed. It was a great cruising machine on motorways , very comfortable, the leather interior on the Mark IV was much better quality than on my Mark V R, that said, as others have mentioned , chassis wise is like driving a heavy old boat, but a confortable faux wooden panelled one at that! Was a good reliable car for me, but handling, performance and sound wise not a patch on the .:R..
dogbucket
I actually thought the wood trim was ok at the time The R has the TT steering rack IIRC, which is quicker and one of the (many) reasons it feels sharper to drive. But the first week I had the R, I genuinely thought I had made a big mistake because it was so extreme compared to the 4mo. Even going back to the dealers to see of they would reverse the deal Obviously I grew I love it with a passion and my ED30 now certainly does not push quite the same buttons. Sean_H
I like the two twin pipes on the left hand side of the V6 4mo, but I'm not sure about the wood trim!
MADMAX999
I had a V6 4mo for 5yrs. The market it was aimed at was BMW/MERCEDES drivers. Yes it felt a bit soft, but when pushed to the limits, it never strayed from the chosen line. It was very relaxing to drive, and its understated looks ruffled a lot of Feathers. Now I have a Mk5 R32 which is much more aggressive to drive, and sounds gorgeous. A natural progression! My advice to anyone on a budget would be to get a V6 4motion and spend some money it, as it would have had an easier life than a Mk.4 R32.

[/ QUOTE ] Loved my 4MO but its not a patch on the R32. Saying that though it was very comfortable and suprisingly quick and on my way to pick up my R32 i kept asking myself if i was doing the right thing but 3 years down the line im definitely glad i swapped but pleased i had the pleasure also

[/ QUOTE ] I cant agree with the ride being bad but compared to the 4MO which was like a sofa on wheels then it is certainly stiffer over the tarmac i agree. As for the engine, the 32 beats it hands down im afraid. What a noise
davec1
the r32 ride is not great in my view. compared to other cars ive been in - clio 197, boxster s, megane 230f1. damping is in a different league on all of those. still love it though - never had a car for 3 & a half years before which says it all really...!
