dogbucket
I have (had) the same problem re. the power socket. Its seems the plug is abit of a loose fit in the socket. Bending the centre pin on the socket slightly did the trick.
RedRobin
....Ah....Do you mean bending the centre pin which is within the socket of the 'Power Bracket' [using the terms used in the Manual], so that the male jack connector has a tighter fit? [said the actress to the bishop ] I'll try that.
dogbucket
yup thats right. Before I did that I had the whole thing apart and there was nothing wrong inside.
RedRobin
I'll post here if it works for me too and then I'll inform Origin of the workaround.
RedRobin
....Well it hasn't worked for me. It's most definitely the poorer road surfaces which create the connectivity problem. Problems on parts of M25 and M20, and then no problems throughout the whole of France except on going fast over a couple of bridge expansion joints, and then 1,700 miles later the dear old UK M20/M25 problems again . Reaching out and pushing the main unit back against its power base connections re-establishes connectivity but it's not good. The other point I found disappointing was the amount of distance it takes to recalibrate itself to either mph or kmh - Not very comforting to be back on the M25 with a reading of 130 !! On the plus side, the large speed display is invaluable and couldn't be better for keeping you speed-aware, and with GPS accuracy - It's just like having a proper heads-up display . [/ QUOTE ] I'd didn't have that problem when we came back from France 3 weeks ago. I changed the setting from kmh to mph before switching off the engine once we were on the train in the Chunnel, and as soon as I drove off the train it was showing mph. Thing I really love is the clear display of everything you need to know in average speed zones - limit, current speed and current average. Only thing I don't like is the amount of beeping while you are going through the M25 variable speed limit zone.
RedRobin
....I switched my settings in the Eurotunnel too - With ignition on but engine not running. I'd rather hear all that beeping on the M25 than only visual warnings, but if they are variable and not displaying a limit, how do we know what the max speed is? It wasn't clear to me amongst all the traffic.

[/ QUOTE ] why don't you just send it back and get it replaced. i have one in my TVR and no issues at all, and im sure mine would be disconnecting all the time if there was a general issue which i don't think there is........ i have sold a large number of the pogo alert units with no connectivity issues at all...sounds as just it a faulty unit.... RedRobin
....Then I think I might send it back but I'm off on another Europe trip later next week and won't want to be without a unit. I'll phone Origin on Monday and see what can be done - If they'll send me a replacement and then I'll send them mine after I recieve it and before I go abroad. [/ QUOTE ] Hi RR, On the Variable stretches off road where their is a speed camera, like the M25, when the over heads displys show eg 50mph max then the camera comes on and is live for snapping if you exceed that speed limit, when you have no speed restrictions then you can travel at 70mph or the limit of the road. Hope this helps

craigyb
Origin are offering a trade in on B2's for Pogo Alerts or Pogo Drives. I have just ordered my pogo alert upgrade.
RedRobin
Origin have just replaced my 'power base'. I sent my faulty one on Friday afternoon and recieved a new replacement by Special Delivery early this morning . Excellent service . Connectivity problem appears solved so far and also calibration kmh > < mph is now instant.
craigyb
I juts got my Pogo, not impressed. I need an external antenna and one is not supplied like it was with the B2, so now I have to spend another £44 on an antenna cos the B2 antenna has a different connector. I might send the whole thing back.
RedRobin
....I assume you are talking about the Pogo Drive and not the Pogo Alert. I think they'll accept it back with no questions asked if within 14 days of purchase.

burble
I just got an email from the good inward at the office saying that the Pogo Alert I ordered yesterday afternoon is sitting on my desk waiting for me for hwen I get back from France
gizze
Craig, what do you think of the size of the unit?? I am after something that I can install stealthy, and it looks too deep to do anything like that with??
craigyb
It is quite deep compared to the B2, probably around 3 times deeper

[/ QUOTE ] Yup, I have to run an external antenna on my A8 for my TomTom. I ran in under the sill trims and B pillar trim, up into the boot and through the boot seal, affixing the antenna block to the base of the rear window. Its discreet enough for me! burble
I've just been out to try out the Pogo Alert and on first impressions I like it. It took a while to position it so that the sun glare wasn't making it hard to see and it does seem to suffer from glare worse than my Tomtom Go 910. For now I'm just using the windscreen mount but I'll hardwire it into the .:R after she's arrived. All I need now is a carry case - any ideas where I can buy one? Tumbletop
Thanks to your excellent review RedRobbin, I've just ordered one from Helfinger. You should be on commission!
GCab
I think the MicroRP remains the most stealthy/least nickable of the detectors, am I right Craig? Shame I left mine in the last car when I exchanged - d'oh.
