The bose on the old A3/S3 was naff. No matter how much to tinkered with the settings, it never sounded right. Ok, it was LOUD but thats about it. The bose on the new A3/S3 is VERY bassy. My bass very rarely moves from '0' ...expect for when The Prodigy Mindfields is on - then it goes right up to maximum!

The bass in my 2001 S3 was pants too! I felt ripped off for buying it. Almost as bad as the bass, was the soundstaging.

I looked into replacing stuff, but think due to it being Bose, it was a case of ripping the whole lot out and starting again!

Our allroad with Bose sounds ok, but not great. But an old TT with bose (have been in 2)sounds great.

I remember taking our allroad instead of the S3 on drives sometimes, due to the cr@p sound in the S3. That's how bad it was!

I agree - i think the sound is great on the new BOSE - so long as whatever you are playing on it is of high enough quality too - for example a written cd from average quality mp3's is really noticeably worse, especially with regards to picking up base tones, than any high quality stuff. The BOSE in my dads A4 sounds great too!

I work in the pro audio (concerts etc) and we have this old saying "No highs, no lows, must be BOSE".

Since all concerts are looking for excessive bass (far more than any instrument would naturally produce), that's what I would expect you to think.

Those of us who live in the world of "real" instruments like the balanced sound Bose offer.

I agree with what you are saying Dave but the Bose system in the 8L's is rubbish, perhaps it is much better in the RS4 Avant. AndyMac sub upgrade is a must if you want more bass and then you can turn down the bass on the HU and drive the cabin speakers harder. Not my thing going down the road boom boom boom but I wanted a bit better sound without losing valueable boot space.

I am not saying Bose is a rubbish brand as I have a Bose system at home and it is excellent and I am just about to upgrade to another Bose system. I just I don't think Bose should have put their name to it in the 8L or at least made it a bit more of an effort with it.

Have to agree with you about the Bose in the 8L. I had it in my 8L S3 and wasn't impressed - souned like just another car OEM's poor attempt at a sound system. The Bose system in the B6/B7 A4 is much better than that was (can't comment personally on the 8P system but owners seem pretty happy by and large), and I regretted not having it on an A4 1.9TDi Sport that I had for a few months (I ordered it on my S4s and it's standard on the RS4).

Like you I also have a Bose system at home.
