Hi all. I am able to get a superchips remap of my MKV R32 done at my local authorised dealer. I am just wondering if anyone has any experiences of it on your R32 or anyone else you know? Its gonna cost me £350.

Here is the info:

Volkswagen Golf Mk5 R32

2006 onwards

Engine type : Non-Turbo Petrol

Engine size : 3200 cm3

Cylinders : 6

Original bhp : 250

Original nm : 320

BHP increase : 15

NM gain : 21

Lb/Ft gain : 15

Attached are the power and torque curves.

Im simply wondering if any of you think it is worth it based on experience and on the figures. Are there also any major risks in relation to the reliability of the car? Really interested in anyone who can comment on such a remap either by superchips or otherwise without changing anything else on the car. eg, I wont be adding a milltek at the moment. Thanks.

Forget it if I were you.

The difference on a MK V is neglible and based on my own experience their claims for increases are exaggerated.

When I had it done on a turbo car they refused to refund the money and tried to rubbish the engine when I visited them and charge me £50 to prove it was nothing like their claims on their rolling raod.

Maybe I'm wrong but I'd doubt that a remap could liberate a further 15 BHP from an engine that produces no more than 247BHP in all guises, be it R32, Audi A3 3.2 or Audi TT V6! The MKIV was tuned down to 237BHP, no doubt to keep Audi's products premium even though the engine is identical. The 6463 update brings the MKIV R32 into line with the rest at 247BHP.

I'm sure if VW could get an easy extra 10BHP from the engine by way of simple remap and thus sling it into BMW130i league (260BHP) then it would have done.

I'd like to see some clear evidence of an extra 15BHP post remap!

You won't get anything like a 15bhp increase over a stock Mk5 engine. A remap on a naturally aspirated engine isn't about cranking up the power and torque massively, it's about optimising the fuelling and smoother running. You may get a gain of between 3 and 5 bhp, but you would never notice the power difference - just the smoother and sharper response.

If you're going to spend your beans, then seriously consider adding a Milltek cat-back exhaust. This will set you back about £600, but will give considerably better gains in terms of sound and bhp and torque.

You would sensibly expect to increase power to 270bhp with a remap and a cat-back Milltek. If you add the hi-flow sports cats, this will add approx 8bhp on top of the 270.

The only way you can increase power beyond this is by uprating the cams or by fitting a supercharger.

Perhaps if the Mk5 R32 had been out when I bought my GTI, I may have got one and wouldn't have felt the need to spend so much on mods. No regrets though 169144-ok.gif.

Mk5 R32 + Hi-flow Milltek + Haldex + ARB's + Remap(?) = Very fine car indeed notworthy.gif

What about an aftermarket Air Intake for the Mk5 .:R?

Thanks all for the replies. With regard to a Milltek exhaust system - can you describe how the noise changes? Is it any louder etc? I also dont want to lose the lovely deep throaty note my MKV R has at the moment. I also dont want to sound like a boy racer and keep my neighbours up at night.

Only louder if you have the straight-through centre section. The Milltek gives the car a deeper note and their familiar resonance that their stainless systems give on any car.

Don't fit the straight-through centre section if you like your neighbours!
