Highlights from the July sportauto super test:

Overall : 66/ 80

For comparison:

997GT3 79

997 C2S 71

RS4 65

Nurburgring lap time on Pirelli Corsas: 8.04

For comparison, with same driver:

997GT3 7.48

997C2S 8.05 (without sport tyres)

RS4 8.09

Acceleration times:

0-62 mph 4.7

0-100 mph 10.5

0-125 mph 16.2

Average fuel consumption during the test was just under 16mpg.

Their test car came in at 132,000 euros with extras like ceramic brakes, sports seats (like those in the RS4) and other bits, or 89,000 quid.

The reviewers reckon the disappointing 'Ring time may be down to the weight of the car - only about 100kg lighter than the RS4, plus the aerodynamics, in particular the high Cw value and high frontal area. (They do get a bit technical!) And the non-adjustable standard suspension on the test car is not ideal for circuit use, they say, pointing out the adjustable magnetic ride option is comparatively cheap.

They weighed the car with a full tank (75 litres) at 1595kg, which includes the weight-saving ceramic brakes and sports seats, so the article says a true base-model weight would be 1632kg. (The ceramic brake diameter is 380mm front, 356mm rear, and the article is very impressed by them).

Overall they say a few minor tweaks could make it a great circuit car, but as it is, it not surprisingly falls a little short of the hype, which had apparently rated it beyond what Porsche is producing. They give it 9/10 for fun at the wheel, 6/10 for everyday practicality.
