CarMad
Well the weather is looking good so should be a nice meet. If anyone is coming from the M60 remember to try and avoid the A6 for as long as possible going through Stockport, its a terrible stop start road of none joy. When you get to the traffic lights at the cross roads near the pub turn towards the pub and pull into the car park just in front of it not the side road before the lights if your coming from the north. If anyone has any questions post away. Aerial view curtesy of Google maps - Park away from the pub where the symbol is on the link.
Ian_C
Been looking forward to this for a year! We aiming for 12 noon? Dropping my brother back to Nottingham University on the Saturday. Plan was to crash with him to save driving home and then back up on the Sunday. However, with no safe parking for the GTi, I'm going to be stopping with my auntie and uncle instead in a hamlet five miles outside Nottingham. Great having an auntie who loves cars! The route I'll be taking will be the fun way. Seeing as my auntie is south Nottingham and I'll be level with the A50, I'll take it west to the magical A515 up through Ashbourne to Buxton. Last year I chicaned east through Buxton and picked up the A6 via Chapel-en-le-Frith, but this year I might stick on the twisties, taking the A5004 via Whalley Bridge. techieboy
Might be a doubt for this now. Ferked the engine mounts in my VX on a Walshy day at North Weald yesterday. If the replacement mounts turn up tomorrow or Saturday, I'll be (not so) ably assisting a fellow VX'er replacing them as I'm meant to be tracking it at Snetterton on Tuesday. Ian_C
Sorry to hear this. Were kerbs the killer, or just lots of engine vibrations and revs? ian
techieboy
Lots of revs, crap surface and many uncontrolled high speed spins The side mounts are famous for self-destructing on the VX and I thought there was a slightly different feel to the engine when I drove Ed back from the last MK meet but was hoping it was just a heatshield vibrating. I've had a new mount rolling around in the boot for 6 weeks (speculative purchase from another VX'er) but need to get hold of another one to fit at the same time. Luckily only needs wheels off and arch liners out to gain access, so not too big (or expensive) a problem to solve.
Ian_C
Do you need a strategically placed trolley jack and lots of chunks of wood to hold the engine? Oh and Ed says hello btw. Ian

Just depends on how long this engine mount malarkey takes to sort as Sunday is the only time matey boy can do it, before I need to track it again, next week. Just turn up and say hello but it would be nice to know if your expected.

Sparky
I'm well nervous. JC is staying with us tonight ready for tomorrow. I've just finished washing the car. I even washed the cleaning product bottles, and lined them up nicely and everything. Have a feeling he's going to say I've missed a bit, or tut despairingly when he sees my efforts
sayerbloke
I just checked Googlemaps for the location. I asked it to calculate how how long the trip would take. It wants me to take the A11, giving 226 miles, 4hours 25minutes. I overrode it and told it to take the A47. Travel time went up by 3 minutes to 4 hours 28 minutes, but taking that route there and back will save me driving an extra 100 miles!
