JayBeeS3
Well felt bored yesterday afternoon so I went to some car dealers for entertainment. Went to a big BMW dealer here closeby (actually a subsidiary af BWM Germany (the factory), anyway I saw that they had a M3 AND a M3 csl...... Was talking to the salesman and after discussing cars a bit and he explaining to me why the RWD beamer is much better compared to my Quattro S3 he asked me if i wanted to drive a bit in the CSL....... WOW!!! I must say that he was in the car with me. First he drove a bit to warm up the engine and then we switched seats and I got to drive it. It really really drives awsome. Mind you this car had the semi slicks under it. The power is amazing. Just a bit more then the "normal" M3 (I think he said 360bhp) but the car is about 200kgs lighter. I didnt really dare to give it full throttle (never drove a RWD car before). The engine sounds sooooo sweeeeeet. The car had the 6 speed sequential gearbox and had the flippers on the stearingwheel and no clutch pedal. I think I am in love. After that trip my S3 feels like a Fiat Panda....... I must say that when I had to choose between this M3 csl or a RS6 (same price over here about EUR 120.000 or GBP 85.000) i wouldnt know what to choose. I never thought that I would like a beamer but this one got me...

Sven
Nice one JayBee! I'd be inclined towards the RS6 me thinks, if it came to that, but if it were to be the BMW I'd chose the M3, not the CSL. I need some comfort... But, nice going! Mind you, I went shopping for an M3 in A'dam, but the spotty youth at the dealer couldn't be bothered to make me a. a decent offer, b. to take the car out unless I signed the contract first. Well, feck him... Went and got an S8 instead.
JayBeeS3
[ QUOTE ] You get the M3 [/ QUOTE ] well the normal M3 looked a bit.... how shall i put it..... normal to me. I mean the interior is almost the same as the 318..... The engine ofcourse is a totally different subject. The CSL interior for that matter is much nicer. Comfy seats and nice carbon panels all around inside tha car. The only problem now is where do i find the money..... theres only a small gap of about 42k GBP between my car and the fully specced M3. (dont even want to calculate the difference to the CSL.....). have to wait until Xmas then..... (and be verrrry nice to my boss because he still has to decide on the bonus this year, altho i think believing in Xmas makes more sense....). I can still feel it........ amazing..........
Sven
Nice of him! That's the kind of thing I'd remember, if I decided to buy a car! Which dealer was it btw? Usually esp. the BMW dealers are such schmucks...
nobrot
I recently took an M3 (not csl) manual and auto and in a streight line wow it made my TT seem very pedestrian esp in sport mode! The thing is show it a bend at any kind of speed and it stops being quite so impressive. I felt that it was simply a car to piss boy racers off from the lights but would be uninspiring on a B road. The interior is practically the same as my friends compac which concidering the 40k price tag is simply not good enough. I am now torn between the TVR350c and Boxter s although most people (like me) are unimpressed with the Porsche.
shao_khan
Depends what you want from the porsche - it is a good car in everything it does - both mine were a lot better built than my TTr was, I liked the layout and seating position (particually with lower seats), but I was kind of underwhelmed by the boxster I felt it needed a little more power to be exciting. TVR - great looking, but you need a very big bag of spare fuses with you at all times!
Brabus
[ QUOTE ] but would be uninspiring on a B road [/ QUOTE ] Hang on. You're saying an M3 is uninspiring coming from a TT?? Sure you wern't driving a 330...
shao_khan
I would guess though after 4wd of the TT you would need to re-learn to drive again when going to a powerful RWD car, so it might make it feel quite odd for a while until you are more accustomed to the drive. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly...nail on head comes to mind. A whole different expierience is required for RWD and it's not something you can pick up or get a feel in one test drive. Uninspiring is the last words I would use to explain any RWD cars handling...mmmmm oversteer!!!
psikim
Just curious, but would they ever send the CSL to the States? I'm sure this question's been asked before. pK
t1mothy
I beat an M3 yesterday, only as is was a really banked9 A-road and he bottled it and I continued up to 120!!! he looked gutted until he passed me on the straight at 140!!
fatcat
On the recent RS246 trip to Le Mans, we had an M3 & a CSL in tow. Not much between the two, for my money the CSL was the better, if just down to the tune from the pipes....... I was lucky enough to be taken round the track in the M3 but not in the CSL. Both great cars.
nicks3
I went from my previous S3 to an M3 SMG and couldn't get used to going sideways everywhere....so back to the S3 for me! Great car the M3, I just got used to the 4wd security I suppose.
arvidtage
had the "standard" M3 smgII coupe for 2 years and was at first very excited. after a while i started getting bit fed up. the gear change in both manual and automatic is a nightmare. if you want to make the car fly you need to set the level of sports mode and then push the sports mode button, not exactly what you have time fore when you are tryoing to follow, and getting your arse kicked by a rs4 (which happened to me) . so now i have sold it and am getting a brand spanking new RS6 end april/beg may and then its off to AMD for bit of extra fun

Stuff like this pisses dealers off and gives the people who are really interested in buying a BMW a tough time. And using your dad (RIP) as an intersted buyer... Sven
Indeed, the twat I went to at the time (before I bought the S8) wouldn't even let me testdrive, unless I signed the bleendin purchase contract... (binding me to buy it unless the car was at fault) I thought not! And I'm no time waster. I might very well have bought the car if I liked the drive and the trade in was any good... f'n muppet. Well, his loss, I've got my S8 now...
