Ian_C
[ QUOTE ] ....any pointers or common faults/things to look out for.... [/ QUOTE ] Personally I wouldn't considering one without a FRSH. There are [just about] enough 172 Cups out for you to be fussy. There is also absolutely no excuse for previous owners to throw away old mots, so many sure yours has them all. My 205 has all 12. Even more important if the car claims to be a low miler. Cambelts at 72k or five years including tensioners. Engine mounts, TDC sensors and exhausts are notorious on the 172 - the 4k rattle! Clutches as early as 30k. Front wheel bearings as early as 40k. Driveshaft gaiters. Rear springs rusting through and breaking. Steering moans on full lock - perfectly normal - power steering pump (like on my 205) and just the top of the shocker catching the turret top. Passenger airbag service light just means the wire under the seat has come away. Overall excellent and reliable cars so long as they have been cared for, pampered and serviced. Certainly a car to buy privately so you can suss out the seller. Even better if you can find a one-and-only private owner. Ian PS. You need evo issue 89!
