Water in passenger footwell

Looks like I may have a small problem with my S4 already........although its not stopping me from smiling yet !

Had the air con on all day today and its been smelling a little niffy when I switch to the Econ mode. and this evening I seem to have water dripping from the passenger side, underneath the glovebox.

Its still heating and cooling ok so I dont think it can be the heater matrix, is it possible that I have a loose hose somewhere behind the glovebox?

Will take a look in the morning, but need to know how easy the glovebox comes out?

Other than that, the car is awesome. Mid range grunt is soooo much smoother then the re-mapped S3 I had

Sounds like the evaporator drain pipe is blocked.

When the air con is on condensation happens on the evaporator and this should drip out underneath the car, but if that pipe is blocked (by dirt etc.) then the condensation finds the next easiest way out - down one of the heater outlets, which in your case is into the passenger footwell.

Just posted this reply on Audi Sport before coming here.....

Just had the glove box out, and that was very straight forward.

looks like the water could be coming from the re cir unit/fan, but typically, it isn't doing it now.

Interestingly though, there seems to be no water coming from underneath the car when the air con is on which may suggest the drain hole for the air con is blocked.

The water which is coming out, is clean, which would back up this theory.

I dont know where the drain hole is to unblock it though frown.gif

looks like you could be spot on Dave, any idea how i unblock it?

Get the car up on some ramps and look for a rubber hose with a flattened end in the area underneath the heater matrix/evaporator.

In my experience what happens is that the flattened end gets "glued together" by leaf residue, tar spray, etc. - so once you've identified the hose just try pushing a screwdriver up it - but make sure you are not underneath it!!!

Right, final post on this, but thought it may help someone else who may find themselves in the same position.......

After having the Millteks fitted today (oh man, how good do they sound !!!! jump.gif )I took the mechanic for a ride up the road to experience the car. Whilst doin it, water appeared near the footwell again. Stripped the polen filter, no water there so must be the air con drain pipe causing the issue as still no water draining under the car.

They kindly let me use their tools to take my glovebox, trim and carpet up a little and then I found the flat pipe near the transmission tunnel. Disconnected this and water flowed over my hands........result, the ignition was off which meant it must have been backed up.

Gentle squirt with the airline, reconnected it, turned it on and the water flowed freely 169144-ok.gif

No more blockage, no more leak.

As Pete said at the start, it must have been flowing out the nearest vent.

Job done. And the exhaust has made my day !
