Scotty
To be totally honest when we were at Le Mans and had one to pour over for a couple of days it did become very "normal". The interior was nice...but so are many Audis. I know what the guy means in his post though. I bought a TT when they were new and different. Buy the time I took delivery 6 months later, it didn't seem different at all. I still enjoyed it but the styling just didn't stand out to me. I guess, as the saying goes, familiarity does bread contempt. I'd be pi55ed if I spent that amount and wasn't over the moon.
Merlot
Indeed. I'd love to go into the future and find out (amongst other things) what one year old R8's will be trading at next autumn when the 'in' crowd have moved on and the V10 is around (or due). So from £85-90k retail now to trade values of: £75k? £70k? £65k? £60k? ...and what will dealer margins be ...and which dealers will write cheques to buy them into stock if the owner is not upgrading to a V10 or Roadster? Will be fun to watch.
Insurance Jon
i'm over the moon with mine, and didn't feel anything for the fezza. even when it went yesterday
Merlot
Always good to get both sides of the story. I'd happily take one if it was cheaper.
Scotty
It must be said that if I had a choice of having one or not having one, it would 200% be the former!
shark_90
At the end of the day, it's an Audi. It may not have the fabled "soul" of a Ferrari or Porsche or whatever else bollocks you believe (jesus.. I felt "connected" with my Mk4 Golf!) but after driving it, I certainly felt like I'd had a very priveledged experience. Like I said, it's an Audi. But it's a fecking good Audi. Woppum
I think they look ace. Id probably have silver with carbon fibre scoop and blk wheels. I do agree about the seats though, they did look dead boring and very unsupportive. Id wait for the RS4 seats...

[/ QUOTE ] That's an interesting point - although the B7 RS4 is still going for strong money, even after a year. Given that most everyone who's driven one (press or otherwise) rates them stupidly highly, even over the 997, there's no reason to believe that they won't hold their values. Sh*t, even Clarkson rates the R8 over all of the other cars in its class - and he's always right Isn't the V10 R8 going to be the RS8?
Alastair_A3
I know they are very different cars, but maybe the R8 might depreciate like the BMW M6 did. They seem to have lost shed loads with 55 plates avalible for low 50's I think the R8 looks pretty awesome, but at the end of the day its an Audi, i dont think i'd spend that kind of money on an Audi or a BMW, I'd want a Porsche 997 or maybe a 2nd hand Gallardo Im sure soon the 997 Turbo will be the same price as an R8, now thats a car! Ian_C
There is no way the R8 is going to depreciate heavily for now, and it won't do for at least 18 months. As I keep saying, you only have to look backwards to see what the furture holds. 996 Turbos, E46 M3s, B5 RS4s, even C5 RS6s: The first examples continued to exhange hands for list after 12 months assuming a sensible spec, low mileage and [obviously] mint condition. The R8 has a huge waiting list - now two years iirc - and is not just an insanely expensive pumped up version of a lesser model [like the M6]. Merlot
The timing of order delivery is also an issue. Whilst cars started being delivered in July, a lot of dealers are not getting their first customer cars until October/November. If I'd bought one, I would have wanted to be out of the V8 when the V10 came out. That will be the start of the slip.
Ian_C
Oh yes indeed. Audi will no doubt purposefully delay the V10 as long as they can to keep interest going, probably introducing it bang on half way through the projected R8 life cycle? Insurance Jon
When I went to the british gp with jeremy hicks he told me it will be a long wait for the v10. v8 is doing too well

Merlot
All makes sense. Its hardly slow. Depends if the facelifted 997 has much of a power boost though.

Ian_C
Nope, I was under the impression the next 911 will be a new chassis. The current one has been around since 1997, or earlier when you remember the front two thirds is based on the 986 Boxster, the car it the 996 was designed in parallel with.
