tonyflow has answered this question on www.navplus.us - the centre pin of the antenna connector was bent.

hi all!

This is my first post here... first of all I want to say sorry about my english, because I'm from Spain :P

I have an A3 Sportback from 2005... I had a concert II installed and recently I upgrade it to an RNSE. Everything was fine except of radio signal...

I have vagcom and I saw the classical DTC's about ZF open circuit, ground cero, etc. But it seems that it has nothing to be with whe radio signal because it's just common with the upgrading from II radios to RNSE.

I've been searching for a posible solutions so before writting here i've read a lot of post in several forums... I heard about the Golf V solutions (but it has nothing to be with my problem cause it's just for upgrading from II+ radios to RNSE), I thought I need an amplifier but I've read that my car has amplifiers at his antennas... maybe the connectors that I have are not well connected... maybe

the only thing I know is that my old Radio Concert II worked fine and now my RNSE has no radio signal... well, at some areas it can catch 1 or 2 radio stations but it do it badly and not for a while... even in big cities it catch nothing! it's very strange isn't it? could my RNSE radio broken?

I think that my problem has to be with antenna circuit... I pluged both antennas HF and ZF to the adaptator and then I plugged them to my RNSe but seems that it doesn't work...

Is there any part of the vagcom program to check if the amplifiers of my radio antenna system worked fine?

maybe the pin of my connector adaptator was also bent... how can I check it? by just looking at it?

I would thank any help!!! :(

I don't know where you read that because it just isn't true.

When upgrading from a II radio to an RNS-E you need an adapter to convert the 1x Fakra + 1x "normal car radio" connector to the 2x Fakra used by the RNS-E - result? Fully working radio and NO error codes.

When upgrading from a II+ radio to an RNS-E there IS a problem - the II+ radios use a different diversity scheme, so cars fitted with the RNS-E are wired differently at the factory from cars fitted with the II+ radios. There is a workaround using a VW antenna module that converts the 2 antenna connections used by a II+ radio into the HF & ZF connections needed by the RNS-E.

Hi petroldave! thanks for your answer, you're right! It's not a common problem... After my first post I was investigating about the problem and I realized that antennas compatibility between RNSE and II radios are perfect (except by the fakra connections). So I was supoused to have full radio stations with my RNSe and my pre-concert II instalation. But the result is that I haven't radio sations... only in a very few places and that's very strange. Even a friend of mine with a RNSE (mounted at factory) has full radio stations so that means that my car has a problem.

Anyway before taking my RNSE unit to the reparation workshop (wich means $$$$) I would like to discard the posibility of having the RNSE unit broken... So I will try to verify the adaptator connections, the antenna cables, also the antennas amplifiers...

I hope that I could find the solutions to the problem in some of this points... :( If anybody has any idea abouta posible solution feel free to post it to me +++ Thanks

Have you tried wiggling the connections at the back of the RNS-E, these are known to break off the circuit board inside the RNS-E and give bad or intermittent reception.

Hi craigyb!

Thanks for your answer... During the instalation of the RNSE I was very careful about the connections, but anyway I will check that posibility tomorrow and I will post the results. I will check also the cable connector and the pins (I still hadn't enought free time this week to sit at my car to check everything :P).

In case of confirming what you are saying, does it have a posible solution? maybe opening the RNSE unit and repairing the connection wit the circuit board? Or should I forget about listening radio anymore? :ffs:

Or maybe do you know any post of people explaining that problem and the way they solve it?

thanks again!!! +++

If you didn't use any adaptors then it was a chorus II+, not a chorus II which is single DIN with a tape player.

Chorus II, concert II single DIN - requires adaptors

Symhony II double DIN - requires adaptors

Chorus II+, Concert II+ and Symphony II+ double DIN with RNS-E style connectors
